El Anatsui exhibition

I went to El Anatsui’s exhibition at Brooklyn museum a few weeks ago, and want to strongly recommend it.

Anatsui is an amazing artist, converting found materials into a new type of media that lies between sculpture and painting, combining aesthetic traditions from his birth country, Ghana. Especially, his metal walls using bottle caps or cans (trash) are so impressive because of their size, beauty and materials. He shows what designers care about now when our environment is being destroyed with overflowing trash.

“Art grows out of each particular situation, and I believe that artists are better off working with whatever their environment throws up.” – El Anatsui, 2003
